Heavy Metals

When it comes to nail colors, metallics with textured finishes ranging from high shine to matte are reigning supreme this fall. Warm steeled surfaces and posh gold and silver manicures give an industrial, urban ice queen sheen paired  with razor-edged, retro detailing and crisp silhouettes.

Nail Tech’s at Polished Outlook Salon in Milford, MI advise choosing a metallic shade by gauging the color against your natural skin tone; match your skin tone for a natural look or choose a contrasting hue to make the metallic really pop.

Some of our current metallic faves include OPI Glitzerland and CND Copper Chrome.

Transitioning Fall Brunettes

Is your color starting to look too root-y, too faded or too light? A new season has started so it’s time to refresh!

The copper red shades of summer are transitioning into deeper, darker trending colors. Take Selena Gomez for instance. The summery ombre Selena was wearing was beginning to look a little faded and washed out.

But her new, deeper highlights are more natural and on-trend. The deeper tones accentuate her eyes and cheeks as well.

Master Colorists at Polished Outlook Salon in Milford, MI recommend transitioning brunettes into fall/winter with naturally-placed deep chocolate brown highlights.

Fall 2012 Haircolor Forecast

Now that the summer is dwindling down, it’s time to prep yourself for next season’s hottest trends. So what’s in store for hair color this fall? Master Colorists at Polished Outlook Salon in Milford, MI provide their color outlook for brunettes, redheads and blondes for fall.

The Cool Brunette

We’ll see a shift from full-head highlights with too much bleach to a healthy, rich, chocolate color. It’s a cooler brunette.

Over the past two years, more and more women want color that’s increasingly natural looking. They want shiny, beautiful hair.

Our Master Colorists suggest to avoid chunky highlights and single, all-over color which could appear solid and blocky.

The Retro Blonde

This fall and winter, we will move away from the sunny, golden blondes and jump into beige-y base colors with creamy, icy highlights.

It’s all about period looks right now and since beige-y blondes and icy shades are reminiscent of the mid-1960′s to early 1970′s, they will be super hot for winter!

This look is perfect for fair skin and light eye colors. For women with darker eyes and darker complexions, our Master Colorists recommend to skip the beige and opt for honey.

The Spicy Red

Redheads will spice things up this fall with deeper dimension. Consider shades of burnt copper with hidden pieces of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Redhead is such a standout color and can be worn in a variety of shades.

Our Master Colorists suggest to avoid anything that may strip away the lustrous color. Redheads should avoid shampooing every day, as well as sun exposure.

Trend Watch

Step out in some of the season’s top looks – we’ve got the key trends from our Master Stylists at Polished Outlook Salon in Milford, MI.

Length Matters: a bi-level cut will be trendy this fall, as well as shoulder-length layers. For long hair, big curls and loose waves are still a favorite.

Color Cues: multiple colors (two to three) will drive styles this season. Also prepare to see brighter blondes and deeper reds. The latter is more blue-based, giving hair a slight purple or bold burgundy illusion.

Style Secret: height through the crown is a style element that we’re seeing, whatever the length. Women should back-comb this area for all-day lift and a polished look.

Bang-Up Idea: Blunt fringe is taking a backseat to long, side-swept bangs.
